EORC's Latest Newsletter
June, 2003

EORC’s racing season is just around the corner. Our first race will be Cold Spring Pond on June 15th. Everything is set, are you ready? Remember you don’t want to start off the season in the running for the sluggo award.
Our second race of the season will be our first AOF sanctioned race. This will be a two-day event held at Flanders men’s club. There is a barbeque planned for Saturday night. From the sounds of this it should be a very successful race. Our next meeting is on June 19th, all of the details will be ironed out then. Please plan to attend.
Good luck to all those going to the away races throughout June.
     See you at the races!

A column relating to all things boat racing...Upcoming races, accomlishments, and general gossip. Submissions are always welcome and should be e-mailed to pyliny@aol.com or faxed to 631-722-5760.

This column is back by necessity rather than by popular demand. But something happened in Standish, ME that cannot go unnoticed. I really feel I owe it to you guys to tell this story.
Who was seen escaping the Super 8 motel in the wee hours of the morning with their pants barely on? Why, it was none other than Howie Pickerell and Ken Terry. Howie was planning on sharing a room with Dave and Pam Young and Ken was bunking in his van as he usually does. He was very happy with this situation. However, by a strange twist of fate, the sink in the Young’s room was stopped up so Pam asked them to repair it while she and the crew were out to dinner. They said that wouldn’t happen, but they would be happy to assign another room. Oh, you don’t have your room key with you..no problem, turn it in later. So Pam reports back that we will be changing rooms later and off they go to dinner. Howie gets the bright idea that the Super 8 won’t rent out the room with bad plumbing, so, hey, he and Ken might as well use the room. That worked out fine and dandy, until 2 am. when there is a knock on the door. Apparently, Super 8 thought the two Harley dudes looked like they really needed the room since they were in rare form..oh yeah, we have a room, plumbing’s broken, but you can have ft for a reduced rate.
Can you imagine Howie and Ken’s surprise when they got evicted by security! Poor Ken was so shaken he barely got his pants on by the time they had to get out. Lucky for them, Howie flashed his Super 8 Discount Card and they got off with a scolding. The next morning, unbeknownst to Pam, there are new residents in Room I38 and she was informed that the two derelicts that had been there left earlier that morning. We later found them in the pits laughing their butts off. I bet Ken will never share a hotel room again.
Ken Terry had his first ride in a 25XS in Standish. Doug Pearsall couldn’t get there when his boat did, so Ken wanted to help the guys out to have more boats on the course and ran Doug’s boat. Though the boat was a bit faster than Ken was used to, he did great taking a 2nd in the second heat and a 3rd overall. He raced his little heart out on that one! Way to go, Ken!
While we are on the subject of Standish, ME, I am happy to report that EORC’s guys did a nice job (if. you don’t count Doug nearly falling out of the boat at one point!)

Volunteers Needed
Flanders Driver’s Party
Saturday, 7/5

We will need some volunteers to help with the Driver’s Party on 7/5. There are lots of things that need to be done.
We are checking with a couple of local people who may want to prepare the grilled food for the party. If we can’t find someone to do this for us, we will be cooking ourselves. This is a lot of work and we could use various people who can man the grill. Anyone who can bring a covered dish (anything you want to bring!) would be appreciated.
We will need to have tables set up (and broken down at the end); garbage pails will have to be emptied and the general area needs to be policed to keep the area as nice as we found it.
I would prefer to see that all members take part in this effort in whatever way they can. We will be forming a committee to oversee the various tasks and to make sure that everything is handled. Please call Pam Young, 631 -722-3160 evenings, to find out how you can help.

This party is for all of us and is for the good of the club!
