Our New Logo
Thank you to the Riverhead BOCES graphic arts department for creating our new logo. They did a fantastic job.
I have been receiving a lot of calls and e-mails from people interested in EORC. This is due to various efforts in sparking people’s curiosity by submitting information to newspapers, starting the Long Island Chapter of Antique Outboard Motor Club, our website, and sending the newsletter to marinas, old members, etc.
We have heard from former EORC members who just lost touch and want to get reacquainted with boat racing. We have also heard from people who just want to know more...what is this boat racing stuff. Sounds like fun!
Everyone’s efforts in recruiting are starting to pay off. This is exciting news for the club.

COMMODORE’S CORNER

What a turn out for the first two races at of the season!! We had a total of 29 entries at Cold Spring Pond and 25 entries at the Scott Hooghkirk Memorial Race at Flanders. Everything ran smoothly with just a few sluggo events. I would like to thank Don Hirsch, John Waltz and Chuck Heffintrayer for traveling to our Cold Spring Pond race. We look forward to seeing you again. Thank you to everyone who was there early and helped setup, and to those who helped clean up at the end.

Our next race is at North Sea, Sunday September 22 We are also looking at putting on a race either September I 5th or October 6th at Flanders Men’s Club. We NEED input from the
members if there is enough interest to run a 4th race. If you cannot attend or will not attend, please let me know. We will not attempt a race if the interest is not there.

In order for our club to grow we must constantly be looking for new members. If you know anyone who is interested bring
them to a race, let them see what its all about. Get them involved at the race either with patrol boat duty, helping at the clock or in the pits. If you think that they are truly interested in racing let me know. I have an extra “C” Hydro rig for interested members to use before they invest money on their own.

See you at the races,
Erik Petersen

June 30th Race at Cold Spring Pond

We enjoyed an excellent turnout at Cold Spring Pond. There were a few new people racing and quite a good showing of spectators.
Some people showed up with new boats while others gave their old boats a face lift. Doug Pearsall arrived with his hydro (X) looking like “Old Glory” herself. Dave Young restored his hydro (94N) and Michael’s runabout (93 N) and did a beautiful paint job and graphics. Dave Young Jr. designed and built a new runabout (95N) which is also pretty fast, except while performing the old cork screw after the first turn.
Gregg Gilmartin and his son, Billy, built a very cute hydro which, hopefully Billy will be racing soon.
Team spirit is looking up! It’s nice to see so many people showing interest in boat racing and the camaraderie shared by all.
Congratulations to all the winners (one of whom was in a race boat for the first time at this race; Danny Smith partnered with Dave Young, Jr. for the Grand Prix Hydro and did his share to take first. Go, Danny!)
Welcome and congratulations go to Jonathan Waltz and Chuck Heffintrayer who traveled all the way from PA and placed I st and 3rd respectively in A Stock Hydro. It was nice to see Don Hirsch again. Thanks for bringing your friends, Don.
