April 2005

Our Next Meeting will be held at the Community Center in Bluepoint at 8:00 on May 19th.

Our last meeting was held with low attendance. Yes - a couple of people were heading south to Lakeland, Florida and Camden, North Carolina.

We discussed our tentative race dates and they still stand at this time of doing this newsletter.

This next meeting is important to get ready on who's doing what for this 1st race of the season.

Also new proposed b1 hydro class will be discussed on how its moving along.

Living in the instant gratification days with extremely limited time for recreational activities. New races need an attractive class option. I propose the following class to the EORC body.

E.O.R.C. B1 Hydro

Eligible engines:

-22d OMC on hot rod lower
-25ss mercury

3 heats four laps per race day:

-After each heat, last place legal finisher has right to swap propellers with first place finisher
- And/ or have a minimal weight (Richard P. will obtain and care for scale)

E.O.R.C. owns and maintains 2 complete identical OMC power heads for renting  $38 per race; driver supplies hot rod tower and gearcase, which is readily available

-One donated by J. Pickerell and one by H. Pickerell

The advantages to this class are as follows:

  • Encourages close competition
  • Entices new non-experienced drivers without 20, 30, 40 years experience
  • Encourages emphasis on driving
  • Discourages use of "magic" propellers
  • Uses readily available power heads (omc) and gearcases (hot rod)
  • Gains membership through true sportsmanship
  • I will assemble anyone's B1 engine for them or assist them in doing so

Suggestions:

  • Have class t-shirts available for sale (I have a great source)
  • Offer a minimum of 4 races per year, preferably 8 (nobody can make every race; you can't go racing if there are no races; justify driver's investment)
  • Have one person make all elligible power head specs identical and sealed prior to race season (I'll volunteer)
  • The days of doing what we always did are over folks!!!

Possible B1 drivers at present time:

  • J Pickerell
  • H Pickerell
  • D Young Sr
  • R Perry
  • E Peterson
  • BOCES student
